Inaugural Dissertation aRt Social!
Come to our first Dissertation aRt Social!
Working in R? Can’t get any analyses done because you’re too distracted by ideas for gorgeous plots? Sounds like you could use a beer, some snacks and a few dedicated hours to generate beautiful aRtwork to share for a good cause! Join us!
Friday, November 18, 2016, 5:30 - 9:00pm
508 2nd St, Suite 208, Davis
Hosted by the Davis R-Users Group and Data Carpentry. Bring your laptop, some data from your research to visualize, and your creative pants. We’ll provide beer & refreshments, good tunes, power outlets, and help with R. Helpers will be ggplot2- and base R-bilingual :).
We’ll be uploading all the images to our nascent society6 artist page. Proceeds from sales will go to a charity fund at Data Carpentry to bring workshops to underrepresented regions and groups.
For some inspiration, see the excellent examples curated by Kara Woo and Erika Mudrak over at accidental aRt.
We’re excited to see what we all come up with!
The Fine Print
The images we create will be available to the public as different kinds of art products, so if you don’t want to use your own data, that’s fine! The idea is not so much to share scientific results, but to generate aesthetically pleasing images from data that can be sold for a good cause. If you would like to use your own data but don’t know where to start, we can help you randomize or anonymize a subset that would be appropriate to use to generate abstract images.
We’ll be using a custom-written package to help size and export images of appropriate resolution. You can help us expedite the image-generating process by making sure you have the devtools
package installed.
